The GSM unit and pendant service works in the same way as the Lifeline Unit and pendant, however, without the need for a landline. Instead, the GSM unit uses a roaming SIM which picks up the strongest mobile network signal and has no requirement for a landline. 

The GSM unit is a simple, easy to use, and supports independent living, by enabling the home environment to be monitored 24 hours a day. The GSM unit is ideal for anyone needing extra support to remain independent at home, providing reassurance and confidence.

The GSM unit can be connected to a pendant alarm, falls detector or other home telecare sensors by sending a radio signal to the GSM unit when the alarm or sensor has been triggered. The GSM unit, connected to our 24/7 alarm response centre which able to call one of our operators who will then respond to the alert by speaking to the you through the GSM unit's loudspeaker / microphone and take appropriate action by getting you the help you may need such as, contacting a family member, carer, a Progress Lifeline emergency home responder or the emergency services. 

To detect risks such as fire, food or gas leaks, you can upgrade to have additional sensors placed discreetly around the home which can automatically raise an alarm. PIR (passive infrared) detectors can be incorporated to provide intruder monitoring or alert if someone has left their bed or home or has failed to return safely within a predetermined timeframe.

The GSM plan starts from £21.99 a month and this includes the monthly hire of a red button personal alarm, a Lifeline GSM base unit connected 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the Progress Lifeline alarm response centre.

The GSM plan can also be upgraded to include a falls package with a wrist-worn falls detector and Progress Lifeline’s Emergency Home Response and assistive lifting service.

A lifeline personal alarm is an emergency alert button that can be worn either as a pendant round the neck or on your wrist.

Personal alarms may also be called personal alert buttons, personal pendant alarms or lifeline alarms.

A personal alarm helps maintain your independence and can keep you living safely in your own home for longer.

The alarm is connected using wireless technology to our friendly team in the Progress Lifeline monitoring centre, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The lifeline personal alarm and remote home monitoring service works via a lifeline base unit, which connects to both a power socket and telephone socket, and a personal pendant alarm button, which is a red alarm button you can wear round the neck as a pendant or on a wristband.

The personal alarm button should be worn all day at home, including in the bathroom (it’s waterproof) and out in the garden (the red button alarm works up to 50m away from the lifeline base unit).

If you feel unwell, have an accident, fall, or need reassurance at home, you press the personal alarm button which connects you to the Progress Lifeline alarm response centre within seconds.

The operator will speak to you via the microphone and speakers on the lifeline base unit to establish what kind of help you need before contacting your named emergency contacts and will also call the emergency services if required.

The operator will keep checking on you via the lifeline system to provide reassurance to you until help arrives at your property. The built-in microphone and speakers are highly sensitive and will pick up your voice even when you're in another room to the base unit.

If you are unable to speak, the operators at the alarm response centre will still send help to your property.

The lifeline personal alarm service can offer reassurance, safety and greater independence to people of anyone over the age of 18.

This package includes:

  • A Lifeline unit and choice of waterproof pendant or wrist button alarm 
  • Immediate 24/7 support from our professional and friendly team, 365 days a year
  • Works inside your home and garden up to 50metres.

Optional upgrades

For an additional cost, you can enhance your lifeline personal alarm package with:

  • Emergency Home Response: You can add our emergency response and lifting service for an extra £11 per month
  • Fall detectors: Opt for an automatic fall detector that immediately connects you to help with no need to press a button from just £18.50 per month
  • No landline options:  If you don't have a landline we have units that work from a sim card from £21.99 per month
  • Go anywhere options: We have products that work inside and outside of the home from just £18.50 - for example when you are out shopping or walking 
  • Home safety and well-being sensors: From just £26.99 per month you can link your alarm to home safety sensors for example a smoke detector. Our alarm response centre is automatically connected and can save time in emergencies such as a fire.

Are you eligible for help with the cost?

VAT relief - the service may be available at a reduced cost for those people in receipt of certain benefits and the majority of our customers do not pay VAT on the service. Please contact us for further information.
