Frequently Asked Questions

What are telecare sensors?

Progress Lifeline’s range of telecare sensors (discrete wireless sensors worn or placed around the home) detect situations that may be unsafe – such as a fall, unsafe levels of gas, smoke or carbon monoxide, flooding, doors that are left open or getting up in the night, and automatically trigger an alarm call to a family member, nominated carer or Progress Lifeline’s 24 hour Monitoring Centre, who then send help.

The assistive technology available from Progress Lifeline supports a range of health conditions, disabilities or just day-to-day independent living, and can provide peace of mind, confidence and independence to you and your family.

My child has epilepsy, are there any telecare sensors which can help detect a seizure?

If a child or family member has epilepsy, there are epilepsy telecare solutions from Progress Lifeline which can help detect a seizure and alert a parent or carer, or Progress Lifeline’s 24 hour response centre.

Progress Lifeline’s epilepsy sensors are used to detect seizures whilst you are in bed. The epilepsy sensor is placed under the bedsheets and monitors vital signs, sending an alarm signal to a nominated person and/or to the response centre when a seizure is detected.

My relative has dementia, how can telecare sensors help?

Assistive technology from Progress Lifeline can help provide peace of mind to you and your family if you or a family member are living with dementia.

Telecare solutions such as bed occupancy sensors, property exit sensors, and gas and flood detectors can help detect unsafe situations caused by the symptoms of dementia such as memory-loss and confusion.

Will telecare work in my home?

Progress Lifeline can provide the telecare service in any home, regardless of the size, layout or location of the property. All you need is a connected landline.

We offer a service that is matched to specific needs and will assist with safe and independent living by helping to manage potential hazards.

Our installation team provide a no-obligation demonstration of the telecare equipment in your home at a time and date to suit you. A free telecare assessment of your needs will also be completed which will identify which telecare sensors may be able to support you.

How are telecare smoke detectors different from traditional smoke alarms?

The telecare smoke alarms from Progress Lifeline are monitored smoke alarms which are connected to our response centre 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Should smoke be detected in your home, the telecare smoke alarm will send an immediate and automatic alert to our response centre while at the same time sounding an alarm in your home.

When a response centre operator receives the alarm call, they send help to your property (depending on the situation, this will be the fire service, your family and friend emergency contacts, while reassuring you that help is on its way and advising you how to stay safe until help arrives.

If you have chosen to include the emergency home response with assistive lifting service as part of your safety and well being package, we will send out an emergency home responder.

Monitored smoke alarms from Progress Lifeline are a helpful assistive technology solution if you have hearing impairments or are deaf, have poor mobility or are disabled and would find it difficult to evacuate your home without assistance, or if you or a family member are living with dementia

How will the telecare sensors alert my family if something happens to me?

If we receive an alert from one of your telecare sensors or your red button personal pendant or wrist alarm, we will communicate with you via the Lifeline system to identify what help you need. We will then call for emergency help and will always notify your nominated family or friend contacts, unless we have been advised not to.

If your assistive technology is linked directly to your family member or carer, they will be automatically notified by a linked telecare sensor, such as a flashing beacon or care assist watch that you require help.

What if I need help and I’m not at home where the telecare sensors are?

Telecare sensors, falls detectors and personal pendant or wrist alarms work up to 50m (approx. 160 feet) from the Lifeline base unit in your home. This means you will remain connected whilst outside enjoying your garden or stood in the grounds of an average-sized home.

For emergency help outside the home, Progress Lifeline also offer GPS telecare alarm devices that allow you to call for help when you’re away from home, such as out shopping or visiting friends.

How do I know that someone is coming to help me?

Our response centre operator will speak to you via the Lifeline base unit in your home to reassure you that help is on its way.

If you cannot hear the operator or they are unable to hear you, or if you are unable to communicate for whatever reason, the operator will always still take the appropriate action to get help to you.

How much does the telecare safety and well being plan cost?

The Progress Lifeline telecare plan costs £26.99 per month with no installation, upfront fees or minimum contract.

This includes:

Cost: £26.99 per month with FREE installation

You can also choose to include the emergency home response with lifting service as part of your falls reassurance plan from Progress Lifeline for an additional £6.50 per month.
